Cheraldean's Story

For 20 years, Bradford has been more than the place I live — it has been home. It is where my husband and I built our life and our family business, GQTECH. It is where we raised our family, where our children go to school, where friendships became like family, and where neighbours have celebrated with us, supported us and trusted us. And it is the community I have had the privilege of serving. I am a wife, a mother of four, a foster parent for more than a decade, a Jamaican-born Canadian, a certified John Maxwell International Speaker and Leadership Trainer, and a proud community advocate. But before I ever sat at the Council table, I was already serving. I was volunteering. Mentoring young people. Supporting families. Helping neighbours. Organizing community initiatives. Creating opportunities for people to come together, feel seen and know that they mattered. Public service did not begin with an election for me. It began with a simple belief: putting people first. SUPPORTING & EMPOWERING WOMEN Some of the most meaningful moments of my journey have been the relationships I have built with women in our community. Women from different backgrounds, cultures, generations and walks of life have stood beside me, encouraged me, challenged me, shared their stories and trusted me with their voices. Those relationships inspired me to create opportunities for women to connect, grow, lead and celebrate one another — including hosting International Women’s Day and launching Bloom, an initiative focused on confidence, connection, leadership and community. When women lift each other up, everyone rises. Because when a woman feels supported, she is stronger. When women are stronger, families are stronger. And when families are stronger, our whole community is stronger. My community work has also included co-founding Rise Up BWG, founding the Impact Youth Leadership Program, supporting the Bradford Women’s Group and Helping Hand Food Bank, organizing food drives and community give-back initiatives, and bringing families together through our annual Back-to-School Basketball Tournament. I have always believed that leadership is about more than attending meetings. It is about showing up for people. WHY I’M RUNNING AGAIN I am running for re-election because Ward 1 is not simply the ward I represent — it is the place I call home. I have listened to your concerns, celebrated your successes and stood beside you through challenges. And I know there is still more work to do. I am not running because I believe the work is finished. I am running because I believe in what we can continue to build together. Over the past four years, I have worked to make our community safer, more accessible, more inclusive and more connected. But the greatest measure of this work is not a list of accomplishments. It is the resident who feels heard. The senior who feels supported. The young person who sees an opportunity. The family who feels they belong. The woman who finds her voice. The neighbour who knows someone will listen. That is what putting the people first means to me. To every resident who has opened your door, shared an idea, raised a concern, volunteered, encouraged me, challenged me or trusted me to be your voice — thank you. I do not take that trust for granted. I was here before the ballot. I have been here doing the work. And I am ready to continue doing it — with you and for you. I am asking for your support to continue serving Ward 1 and building an even stronger Bradford together.
